About CBC

We endeavor to help patients obtain positive life skills that can help them lead successful, healthy lives! The Cadwalders have been helping young people recover from behavioral disorders and substance abuse for over 30 years. Drs. Roger and Kathy Cadwalder have developed a program that utilizes the whole person concept of therapy which involves physical, emotional and spiritual recovery.

We at CBC use a blend of counseling methodology that we call “mega-counseling”. This method involves a mix of spiritual and psychological concepts which produce strong life changing events. They result in an almost magical recovery process. Similar to chemical dependency and other behavioral issues, no one method of therapy has proven to be totally successful for long term recovery. However, Equine Integrated Behavioral Therapy seems to be better than most therapies we have experienced. It is also a highly effective method of teaching trust, responsibility, love, self-esteem, and many other positive personal traits.

While equine assisted therapy is a relatively new approach, it has been used with dramatic results in other behavioral therapies. It has widespread use nationally in programs for disabled youth. It has also been used successfully at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch for many years.

We know how devastating it is to suffer from an eating disorder and how traumatic it is to see someone you love suffering from it, but there are often happy endings with dedicated therapies!

A Tribute to Dr. Roger Cadwalder

Finishing the Course

George Roger Cadwalder (Doc) went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2006 at the age of 76. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by so many. Dr. Cadwalder (Doc) was born August 8, 1930 to George and Vera Cadwalder in Houston, TX. After graduating from Texas A&M Veterinary School in 1954, he practiced as a large animal vet in the Houston area for over 20 years. Doc eventually became an outstanding vet in The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Doc later earned a doctorate of public health from the University of Texas. An outstanding community leader who was thought to be larger than life itself, Doc was known for his jovial sense of humor, for being the light in a crowd, and for never having met a stranger. He founded the Cadwalder Behavioral Center and has spent his remaining years helping people battle numerous addictive illnesses. In the recent years he has successfully focused on Eating disorders, smoking cessation and chronic mental illness. Doc's majestic greatness was grounded in God. He practiced this belief daily by counseling and encouraging people to see their strength and turn their hurt and pain over to God. Doc was participant in many support groups for over 40 years and help start or participate in numerous recovery activities in the Houston area including but not limited to Texas Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (TAADAC) past President, International Doctors in AA, (IDAA), Spectrum and others. He was also guest speaker at Texas Medical Association, University of Texas, Houston Community College System, Lamar University, University of Houston, University of St. Thomas, Humble High School, Houston Council On Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Cumberland County Drug Alliance, Westbury Hospital, West Oaks Hospital, Cypress Creek Hospital, Texas A&M University, Exxon, IBM, Southwestern Bell, NASA, River Oaks Baptist Church, Tomball Assembly of God and etc. Throughout his life Doc was a loving son, husband, father, stepfather, brother, grandfather, brother-in-law and a great friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Survived by Kathy Cadwalder, his loving wife and helpmate of 29 years and Children David, Jason and Connie. Doc was a renaissance man that believe in simple but great principles that he encouraged everyone to live by such as

"You don't have to perfect, just perfectly adequate",

"Weller than Well",

"Once you are a pickle, you cannot go back to being a cucumber"

Addiction, "doesn't respect anything or anybody"

"It's not "bad" people who get addicted to drugs…It's the addiction that causes good people to do bad things" and

and many more!

These principles helped produce successful recovery for hundreds of people both personally and professionally, throughout the United States. Fortune 500 companies in over 20 states and numerous insurance companies subscribe to the Cadwalder treatment programs for stress management, health enhancement and recovery from addictions. This success stems for the work and legacy of Doc Cadwalder.

The community has lost a great man in the field of human services. However, the many lives that were touched by Dr. Roger Cadwalder will all bask in the sunshine of his memory…knowing that the Sun will never set on his legacy of love for people that are hurting, hope for those in recovery and encouragement for anyone who needed a kind word.

Well done my good and faithful servant.

Thanks Doc.
