Non-specific Eating Disorders & Binge-eating Disorder

These eating disorders do not fit the criteria for anorexia or bulimia. They may be characterized by the following criteria:

  1. All symptoms and signs of anorexia are met except the patient experiences normal menses.

  2. Significant weight loss; however continue to maintain a normal body weight.

  3. All criteria for bulimia are met accept the episodes occur less than twice weekly for less than 3 months.

  4. Normal weights among individuals indulging in compensatory behaviors after eating even a small amount.

  5. Chewing and spitting out any amount of food.

  6. A variant of this category known as a binge eating disorder is characterized by the intake of large amounts of food, with the lack of control of amounts is engorged and without regular use of compensatory actions. This condition is very needful of additional research.
